Wednesday May 27, 2009 @ 6:30pm
Location: Orlando East
Result: 5-1 Win
Game Summary: Ukraina kicked off their season in great fashion today under wet conditions! Right from the first whistle ukraina threatened and controlled the pace of the game not giving their opponents a chance. Ukraina got things going early when a long ball got passed the last defender and Chris Arnone was there, as he was all game, and put the ball in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Ukraina kept up their strong play as a through ball was threaded into Alex Zaslavsky who buried it through the keepers legs. The score was 2-0 at half. Staying focused, knowing the game could still swing quickly, the standard did not drop. Jonny Udell, on a great individual effort, slotted home ukraina's 3rd goal from an sharp angle. In the later game, Ukraina let some of their young talent, and call ups take the field, and they played well. Quickly making a statement was Antoine Sylvester who was able to bury 2 fast break goals, numbers 4 and 5 for Ukraina. Before the end of the match, Ukraina with a little mix up gave up 1 goal, but played a strong 90 minutes. Morgan Kenny played well in goal.

Wednesday June 10, 2009 @ 6:30pm
Location: Orlando East
Result: 3-2 Win
Game Summary: Ukraina were playing a very good team today, and after follow a loss they were eager to get out there to prove themselves again, and it showed. The boys came our ready to play, and played well eventually getting the first goal as Alex Zalavsky found the back of the net, but gave up a goal quickly there after to equal things at 1, and so it stayed until half. Ukraina were happy with the first half and felt the game was there for them to win if they continued to play hard. 5 minutes into the second half Ukraina did it again as Sergiy Kovalenkov scored to put the team up 2-1, but again ukraina dropped their play and gave up an equaliazing goal. The team were not satisfied with a tie and went searching for the equalizing goal. With a free kick about 35 yards out, Igor Platchenko went for goal, delivering a rocket on net and was just unlucky not have scored as the ball hit of the corner of the woodwork. Finally hard work paid off and there was a hand ball in the box, and Igor stepped up and burried the penalty kick. Impact came on strong in the final minutes of the game, but Ukraina held on for the victory.
Man of the Match
Igor Plechtchenko
Igor played an excellent game in the central midfield, making tough takles, being an offensive threat, and burying the game winning goal.

Result: 1-1 Draw
Game Summary: Ukraina played a solid game today, earning another hard earned point in their quest for promotion. Ukraina played well, but were not rewarded early on when the Turks went ahead 1-0 on a rather unfortunate goal. Ukraina kept the pressure on, and were justly rewarded just before half time with Chris Arnone, who is in fine scoring form this season scored a good goal from just outside the 18. Ukraina had the play the rest of the game, missed a few chances to win the game, but all in all a good point earned. Morgan Kenny played well in goal.
Man of the Match
Danilo Popowych
Danilo was a rock on defence, and looking to be the great player he is after overcoming a few long term injuries.

Game Summary: Ukraina played a decent game today, but came up a bit short collecting just 1 point in a game where 3 points would have been more fair. Scott Makischuk scored a good goal very early in the game, but the opposition equalized just before half time. The result stayed 1-1, despite golden chances for each team in the second half. Morgan Kenny played well in goal.

Location: Orlando East
Result: 3-1 Loss
Game Summary: Ukraina again played a decent game, but at this level we need to finish our chances, and be focused all 90 minutes and it just wasn't to be today. To be completely fair, Ukraina are having a tough season on the luck side, not getting bounces go our way, and it always seems to be against us this season, but as they say, it will all balance out. Ukraina went down 1-0 after having all the play, but equalized in the 44th minute on a goal by Scott Makischuk. Ukraina then played some decent stuff, but found themselves chasing the game again giving up a goal in the 72nd minute and then again in the 83rd minute. Morgan kenny played in goal.

Wednesday July 15, 2009 @ 9:00pm
Location: University of Ottawa
Result: 5-2 Win
Game Summary: Ukraina were very good today, the hard work and training is starting to pay off as we are getting sharper and strong as the season progresses. Ukraina started the game very strong, when Scotty Makischuk scored by rounding the keeper in the 6th minute. The lead was short lived though, as the opposition scored from long range to make it 1-1 in the 16th minute. Ukraina were to take the lead again a very short time later, as Scott Makischuk scored a volley from 18 yards to make it 2-1 Ukraina in the 21st minute. Halftime came, Ukraina made a few changes, everyone was giving their all and working hard, and it came good when Scotty scored his hattrick, again with a clever run and was sent in on a breakaway and finished to make it 3-1 Ukraina. Igor Plechtchenko was next on the scoresheet, with a great free kick from 20 yards out smashing it into the net off the post. Our final goal was scored by Captain Alex Zaslavsky from the penalty spot. Morgan Kenny played well in goal.

League Game
Ottawa Ukraina 1st Team vs. OISC Devils
Sunday July 19, 2009 @ 6:30pm
Location: Uplands Military 2
Result: 2-1 Win
Game Summary: Ukraina today finally overcame the omen of this particular field we played on, which over the years has been a curse to us! We did it in dramatic fashion, in a game with red cards, scuffles, bad tackles, high emotion, emotional rollercoaster rides... Ukraina started the game well, dominating play, and were given an advantage when the opposition keeper was given a red card for a tackle on Scott Makischuk. Then a few minutes later, Sergey Kovalenkov hit a nice volley in the 16th minute to give Ukraina a 1-0 lead. We were cruising at this point, a man up, a goal up, and all the play. The bad luck continued on this field as Scott Makischuk, our teams leading goal scorer once again went down with a bad knee injury and was lost for the game and probably longer. Half time came. As luck would have it, early in the second half the opposition broke through, and tied things up in the 55th minute. Things went from bad to worse as Captain Alex Zaslavsky got his second yellow card and was sent off and evened the teams back up again at 10 v 10. Emotions were high, refereeing was poor, chances were missed. In the 93rd minute, the game was all but over, but Chris Arnone, who is having a great season for Ukraina was sent in on the left, took a great touch with his chest, cut inside and hammered home a left footed volley to win the game for Ukraina. Great important win for the team. Morgan Kenny played well in goal.
Man of the Match
Sergey Kovalenkov
Sergey worked himself into the ground like a true leader.

Wednesday July 22, 2009 @ 6:30pm
Location: Tauvette
Result: 2-1 Loss
Game Summary: Ukraina lost a game today, where if they played it 10 times they probably could have won it 7 times out of 10. But thats the way soccer is sometimes, when you don't finish your chances, you get beat. Ukraina started pretty well, earning a penalty shot in the 20th minute but unfortunately were unable to bury it and the half ended 0-0. Early in the second half, Ukraina gave up a goal on a shot that many won't see again where Morgan Kenny had no chance in goal. Ukraina were picking it up, but went 2-0 down in the 60th minute. Danilo Popowych pulled one back direct from a corner in the 72nd minute, and Ukraina had their chances to tie the game, but were unable to get it done. Morgan Kenny played well in goal.
Man of the Match
Danilo Popowych
Danilo worked hard all game, tackled hard.
League Game

Location: Dunrobin CC
Result: 3-1 Win
Game Summary: Ukraina played in a massive game today, against one of the top teams in the league, and were in a must win situation to keep hopes of promotion alive. We started strong, and off a corner, Alex Zaslavsky was on hand to finish home a scramble in the box to put Ukraina up 1-0. The game was pretty even after that, and the opposition were able to get one back about 10 minutes before half time. The half ended 1-1. Ukraina came out in the second half strong, working hard and getting chances. Sergey Kovalenkov was on hand to give Ukraina the 2-1 lead off of a free kick - he rose well in the air and headed the ball downwards into the goal. Ukraina were playing well, and were awarded another free kick, where Danilo Popowych saw the keeper out of position, and fired home a great shot catching the keeper off his line to make it 3-1 Ukraina. We held on comfortably for the victory. Graeme Webber played his final game for Ukraina as he moves back to BC. He will be missed! Morgan Kenny had a great game in goal.

We needed to take points badly to stay in the race for promotion, and the will and courage of Ukraina was in full force today. Ottawa Ukraina 1st Team vs. CCA Stallions
Sunday August 9, 2009 @ 6:30pm
Location: Orlando East
Result: 2-1 Win
Game Summary: Ukraina played in one of the most stressful games of the season today. Needing a win to keep up with the frontrunners at the top of the league, Ukraina found themselves 0-0 at halftime after a half of dominating play. The second half started similarly, but tragedy struck in the 74th minute, as the opposition broke forward, and scored on a counter attack and Ukraina found themselves 1-0 down with 15 minutes to go. Then the story book was written, Scotty Makischuk, who has missed the last 7 weeks due to another mcl injury, showed up to the match dressed and able to play at about 15% healthy. Scotty went on the field in the 77th minute, and after 4 seconds, tied the match up 1-1 on a good long ball by Morgan Kenny and flick by Chris Arnone. The dream comeback was complete by Sergey Kovalenkov, who battled in the 6 yard box to put the ball home and send the Ukrainian fans off the side of the field into celebration. Morgan Kenny had a great game in goal saving a breakaway with 10 seconds left in the match.
Man of the Match
Mike Herasimenko

Location: Kaladar Park
Result: 4-2 Loss
Game Summary: Ukraina played against the top team in the league today, and although the scoreline wasn't in our favour, we battled hard and the game could have been ours. Ukraina went 1-0 down just before halftime and at the half were 1-0. The opposition was able to score another about 10 minutes into the second half, but Ukraina did not fold, we pushed forward and Chris Arnone scored a brave goal for Ukraina to make it 2-1, and Ukraina were back on track and buzzing. Unfortunately a red card to Ukraina was given, and had to play with 10 men the rest of the game, and it was too much on the day for the lads, who went down 4-1, before Igor Plechtchenko scored a fantastic strike to close the gap. Morgan Kenny played well in goal.
Man of the Match

Ottawa Ukraina 1st Team vs. Kanata Lightning C2
Wednesday August 26, 2009 @ 8:30pm
Location: Pat O'Kane
Result: 2-0 Win
Game Summary: Ukraina again played in a must win game, and missing key players such as Andriy Panchuk, Luke Makischuk, Matty Kenny, and Kon Privalov. Ukraina did not let that affect them, as players stepped up and played some good soccer and got a big win. Quinn Abugov made his debut for Ukraina, a young great talent who Ukraina will be looking to sign on full time come next summer. And this match also marked the return of Andriy Popowych to the first team, having recovered from a knee injury and having played most of the season with the reserve team getting himself back to top form. This match also marked the end of Morgan Kenny's season as he is off to University. The game was very tight in the first half, but Captain Alex Zaslavsky's killer pass for Scotty Makischuk to finish off was just what Ukraina needed to make it 1-0 before half. In the second half things were still tight, the opposition was playing good soccer, but it was the quick thinking of Igor Plechtchenko who won things for Ukraina taking a quick free kick catching the other team off guard and scoring his 4th of the season. Morgan Kenny played very well in goal.

Igor Plechtchenko scored a free kick not too much long after before Chris Arnone sloted him a goal to make it 3-1 Ukraina. Alex Zaslavsky then scored one of the goals of the season late in the first half to essentially kill off the game. The second half started as the first half did, with an early goal by Ukraina by Alex Zaslavsky from the penalty spot. Late in the game the opposition struck again, but young starlet Nate Lafosse beat a few defenders, and finished nicely to get his first of the season.
