Vince Didkovsky made sure Ukraina's 3 goal lead was back with a great finish off his chest off of a corner. Ukraina started the second half well as both teams fought hard, but no goals happened until Andriy Panchuk and Luke Makischuk played a great one two passing play, and Lukey finished to make it 5-1 Ukraina. League Game
Ottawa Ukraina vs. AS Romani
Sunday, February 15th, 2009 @ 06:00 PM
Location: Coliseum
Result: 3-2 Win
Game Summary: In a typical Ukraina match nowadays, we started very sluggish and made it hard on ourselves. Ukraina went 2-0 down in the first half, and were struggling to put away their chances. The opposition was playing well, and giving Ukraina all they could handle. Morgan Kenny got Ukraina back into the game with a great left footed finish. Halftime 2-1 Opposition. The second half started with the real Ukraina, fired up and ready to battle. The boys have to find it in them to find this fire before the game, rather then wait until they are down. So the boys took the field to battle back. But were handed some bad luck. In also typical fashion, the refereeing was atrocious, and Luke Makischuk was sent off for a very soft call, and Ukraina were left playing a man short 6 players v 7 players. Again, in typical Ukrainian style we stepped it up and played hard. Graeme Webber was then issued a yellow card for a hard tackle, and was given a 2 minute penalty, where Ukraina was playing 5 v 7! We held them off well, fighting for every tackle, and Scotty Makischuk scored to make it 2-2 playing a man short. The rest of the game tackles were flying all over the place, trash talking, coaches intense trying to influence referees, and with 7 minutes remaining Sergey Kovalenkov beat 2 mean and placed home a great shot. The Ukraina bench and players and fans erupted in excitment, and Sergey's celebration was as good as the goal as he strolled by the opposition bench letting them know Ukrainians always come on top! Ukraina played well, and even had most of the play for the rest of the match. Andriy Popowych had a great game in goal, saving some great opportunities.
