Game Summary: Ottawa Ukraina Men's 5 team played their first game of the winter indoor season and welcomed 3 new signings to the club and their first ever game for Ukraina. These are Zeljko (Sule) Danilovic - midfield, Evan Einarsson - keeper and Elias Kuka - defender. Today Ukraina were shor a few players but were excited to get back on the playing pitch. The game started with Ukraina a lttle back on their heels, getting back to playing form and getting use to the new players. The opposition had most of the pressure on Ukraina, with Ukraina having few missed chances. The opposition struck first to put Ukraina down 1-0. Ukraina started to play better but could not capitalize on their chances, which were few and allowed the opposition to get another goal to put the team down 2-0. Ukraina had some pressure on the opposing goal and were unlucky not to score. Before the half ended Ukraina went down 3-0. The boys were not down and came out much stronger in the second half, putting some passes together and playing better defensively. Ukraina missed a few good chances and finally in the last 10 minutes with some great passing Jeff Cheliak sloted a goal to make a game out of it, and it was 3-1. Ukraina played hard until the final whistle but could not even the score. Even Einarsson, playing his fist game made some great saves to keep the score close.

Zeljko (Sule) Danilovic
Sule was playing his first ever game for Ukraina and showed great flexability, playing in the midfield as well as on defence. He made some great passes and some great tackles.

Result: 3 - 2 Win
Game Summary: Ukraina with a strong effort from the prvious week, but an unfavourable result, wanted to rebound and get their first win of the young winter indoor season. The game did not start as well as they had hoped and Ukraina were under pressure from the opposition but some good defending and some key save by Even Einarsson, kept the game 0-0. Ukraina had a few chances but could not score either. Ukraina got their feet and started playing better, keeping the opposition away from goal and generating more chances with some good passing. Then a hand ball in the box allowed Johnny Udell to step up and put the ball in the net with a greap penalty kick. The first half ended Ukraina up 1-0. The second half saw Ukraina start with more confidence and more pressure on the opposition and Dmitriy Synyak put in a ball from the line off a Jeff Cheliak cross and Ukraina were up 2-0. Then Ukraina made some mental errors and allowed the opposition to come back and score 2 quick goals and the score was 2-2. Ukraina did not give up and kept the pressure up, and another penalty kick was awarded. Zeljko (Sule) Danilovic stepped up and scored a fantastic penalty, where the keeper had no chance of saving. This was Sule's first ever Ottawa Ukraina goal and one of many for sure. Ukraina were up 3-2 and defended well in the last 5 minutes to preserve the win.

Result: 2 - 1 Win
Game Summary: Missing some players on this day, Ukraina were playing a team they know well from previous seasons, and one that is expected to challenge for top spot in the league. Controlling most of the game and playing some great defense, it was Bombay that had the best chance first in a penalty kick. Andrew Panchuk made the stop, and shortly after Ukraina were rewarded on some great passing as Luke Makischuk had the finishing touch. The good play continued through half as the defense were strong and the offense was creating chances. The Rockers are a dangerous team and capitalized on one of few chances they had and it was 1-1. A tie would have been an unfortunate result in this game but a great cross field pass by Roman Zakaluzny, found Myk Shaforostov who buried the game winning goal. Andrew Panchuk played in goal.

Result: 6 - 3 Win
Game Summary: Ottawa Ukraina were playing a really late game and with the weather being bad, some players were missing from the roster. Ukraina were going for the 3 consecutive win, showing some heart and hard work in all previous games. Uraina stated well and controled the game from the start, having the better chances to score but could not get a goal early in the game. Finally Andriy Panchuk took the ball from his own end, beat a couple of opposing players and scored a great goal to make it 1-0 Ukraina. Myk Shaforostov added the second goal, by a smart play off the corner to sneak it by the keeper. The opposition got a goal to make it 2-1 Ukraina. Ukraina continued their good play and control of the game which allowed Sergey Kovalenkov, on a callup from Australia,to score a 3rd goal to make it 3-1 Ukraina. That is how the 1st half ended. Ukraina came out flat in the second half and allowed the opposition to score 2 quick goals and tthe game was tied at 3. Ukraina did not hang their heads low and picked up the pace and pressure on the opposition. Roman Zakaluzny made a great run and scored to put Ukraina ahead 4-3. Walter Usyk added a goal from a great pass by Myk to make it 5-3 Ukraina and the game out of reach. Vince Didkovsky scored late in the game to give Ukraina the 6-3 win. Scott Makischuk played in goal.

Myk had a great game playing in midfield. Controled the ball well, made some great runs down the win and made some great passes. Myk also added a goal.

Result: 3 - 2 Loss
Game Summary: In the last game before the Christmas break Ukraina wanted to go out on a winning note. Things started well for Ukraina with getting some chances on net and finally Dmitriy Synyak scored to put Ukraina up 1-0. The lead didn't last long and the opposition scored to even the game up at 1. The opposition added another goal before the half and Ukraina were down 2-1. The boys worked very hard in the second half and played well and Elias Kuka scored his first goal of his young Ukraina career. The battle continued and it was looking like the game would end in a tie but an unfortunate mistake allowed the opposition to score late in the game and Ukraina could not mount the comback for the 3-2 loss. Even Einarsson played well in goal.

Dma had a great game in the mid-field using his speed to beat defenders and scored a great goal.

Result: 6 - 4 Win
Game Summary: After a two week break and an unfortunate loss in the previous game, Ukraina needed to get back on the winning track. Things started very well and the boys were eager to play. It showed as Ukraina went up on a goal by Scott Makischuk. Ukraina were the better team on this night but allowed the opposition to score to make it 1-1. Scotty then scored two more goals before the end of the half and Ukraina were in the lead by 3-1. At the start of the second half the opposition scored early and tied the game at 3. Ukraina went up again and who else but Scotty scored to put Ukraina up 4-3. The opposition came back and tied it and the game was very tight from then on, but again Scotty saved the day and scored his 5 consecutive goal to put Ukraina up for godd. Nic Jurchuk scored late to seal the game. Even Einarsson played well in goal.

Result: 4 - 2 Loss
Game Summary: Ukraina were ready to continue their hard work and wanted a win on this night against a good team. The battle was feirce but the opposition scored first and Ukraina were down 1-0. Ukraina were not in good form this night and allowed the opposition to score 2 more goals and were down 3-0 at the end of the first half. In the second half Ukraina played much better with some good passing, allowed Andriy Popowych to score and the game was 3-1. Even thoguh Ukraina was the better team in this half, the opposition managed to score to make it 4-1. The boys did not give up and continued to battle hard and Jon Udell scored late to make the score respectable at 4-2. Even Einarsson played in goal.

Game Summary: Ukraina was coming off a loss and trying to get back on the winning column. The boys came out strong from the start of the game and played well controlling the whole game. Ukraina were rewarded for the for good play and Arsen Gritsenko, playing his first game after a long injury, scored to put Ukraina up 1-0. Ukraina kept their good play and did not give the opposition many chances and Myk Shoforostov scored a nice goal to put Ukraina up 2-0 and that’s how the first half ended. In the second half Ukraina sat back on their heels a little and let the opposition make some plays which allowed them to score and make the game 2-1. Ukraina were playing well but could not put the ball in the back of the net and an error on defense allowed the opposition to score and the game was tied 2-2. Ukraina pressed for the go ahead goal but could not capitalize on their chances. The opposition got a lucky break and scored late in the game and Ukraina were down 3-2. The boys tried very hard for the equalizer but it was not to be on this night and the game ended 3-2 for the opposition. Evan played well in goal.

Myk played a good all-around game in the midfield and added a good goal.

Result: 4 - 2 Win
Game Summary: This was Ukraina last game of the season and would decide if Ukraina finished 4th or 5th in the standings. Also a good preparation for next week’s playoff game. Ukraina hoped to continue their good play of late and go out on the right foot in the last game of the season. The boys did not disappoint and played well from the very first whistle. Ukraina passed the ball well and had some good chances on goal. The defense was very strong in the back and minimized any chances on goal. Ukraina got on the score sheet first with Vince Didkovsky scoring the first goal. Then Scott Makischuk added another to make it 2-0 Ukraina. The opposition got one back but Arsen Gritsenko struck before the end of the first half to make 3-1 Ukraina. Ukraina owned the second half and had most of the chances and finally Denis Pogrebinski scored to make it 4-1 Ukraina. The opposition added a goal but the game was never in doubt and the game finished 4-1 Ukraina. Evan Einarsson played well in goal.

Denis got his first goal of the season to put the game out of reach. Made some good passes and good runs in the mid-field.

 

Playoff Game

Result: 3 - 0 Win (Default)
Game Summary: Ukraina were playing the same team from the previous week, in its first playoff game. The boys were fired up to play and make a good run into the playoffs. They knew the game was not going to be easy and the opposition wanted revenge from the lose from the previous week. Also, the other team brought in some players that were not seen from the previous games. No matter, Ukraina were ready to play. From the first whistle it looked like it’s going to be a very tough game, but Ukraina started well and Scott Makischuk scored the first goal very early into the game. Then Ukraina got into a bit of trouble and the opposition scored 5 unanswered goals before the end of the first half and Ukraina were down 5-1. Ukraina came out strong in the second half and scored goals by Denis Pogrebinski and Myk Shoforostov made the game close at 5-3. The opposition managed to score another goal and it was 6-3. But Ukraina added 3 more goals, 2 by Arsen Gritsenko and another by Scott Makischuk. The opposition illegal players had left before the end of the game and it showed that Ukraina were the better team. Because of the use of ineligible players by the opposition, Ukraina were awarded a default win and moved on to the second round of the playoffs. Even Einarsson played well in goal.

Result: 4 - 4 Loss (In Penalties)
Game Summary: Ukraina played a very great first 40 minutes, going ahead 4-1, but had a collapse and allowed the opposition to fight their way back and tie it at 4. The game went into penalties, and unfortunately Ukraina lost in penalty shots. Goal scorers in the game were Vince Didkovsky with 2, Nate, and Aza. Evan Einardsson played well in goal.
